Register for Classes
Students must be enrolled in a class in order to attend.
To enroll, please fill out and email the form by clicking the button on
the left. You can also enroll by visiting or calling the NETS Computer
Center between the hours of 2-5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Introduction to Computers
Three Sessions
This course lays the groundwork for basic computer skills. Students learn about the inner workings: computer parts and how they work together. Students also learn the basics of Windows XP and using a mouse and keyboard. Elementary skills such as minimizing, maximizing, closing windows, saving files, and creating folders are also taught. The Introduction to Computers class lays the groundwork for all other courses taught at the NETS Computer Center.
Introduction to the Internet
Three Sessions
In this class, students learn how to use browsers to search the Internet and find information. They will learn what a “search engine” is, and how to use one effectively. They also learn advanced browsing and searching techniques, and the differences between internet browsers.
Introduction to Email
Three Sessions
Students are assigned an
email address and password for training purposes. They learn how to log
into their mailbox, send messages to others, read, and delete their messages.
Students also learn how to send and receive email attachments. Finally,
students are made aware of safe browsing practices; how to detect and
avoid Internet fraud, and the definitions for terms such as “spam”, “viruses” and “spyware”.
Introduction Microsoft Word
Three Sessions
Students learn the basics of the world’s most popular word-processing program. This course deals with familiarization and basic use of the program: saving documents, creating new documents, changing the font size, style, and color. They also learn how to format a document: changing the style and look of a document by aligning, underlining, and italicizing text. Finally, basic typing skills are taught and a more advanced explanation of advanced keyboarding functions are given.
Introduction to Microsoft Powerpoint
Three Sessions
Students learn the basics of creating slide show presentations by creating recipes. They learn how PowerPoint presentations aid in speeches and teaching situations. They will learn to use clip art, WordArt, and set the slide transitions and animation. Finally, students will all have the opportunity to present their slideshow to their classmates.
Office Skills Course
Three Sessions
An intensive course for persons seeking to learn computer skills necessary in today’s computer-literate office environment. This course consists of three two-hour sessions, each one covering advanced use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher such as programming macros, performing a mail merge, sorting a database, creating formulas, and using Visual Basic.
Buying a New Computer Seminar
Held Once Monthly
This seminar will arm people with the necessary information to purchase the computer they need without overpaying. Attendees will learn computer terminology and specifications. Different levels of computer use will be described to help attendees make an informed decision about the computer is right for them and what to expect from different price levels.

About the NETS Computer Center
The NETS Computer Center is a non-for-profit community center sponsored by Assemblyman Peter M. Rivera. Our programs are made possible by a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.
We feature state-of-the-art equipment with the latest programs and high-speed internet access. Classes are small and instructors are ready to help students. Seminars and classes begin every month.
Computers Open to the Public
(Monday - Friday, 3 - 5 p.m.)
Computer and internet access is provided free of charge for all community members. Computer use includes productivity and self-publishing software.
