Our Mission

Neighborhood Enhancement for Training Services, Inc. (NETS, Inc.) is a 501c(3) non-profit organization. Since 1980, NETS has provided programs and services for Bronx youth and senior citizenry, particularly in the Castle Hill, Van Nest, Parkchester, Stratton Park and West Farms neighborhoods. NETS strives to improve our community through programs designed to enrich, teach, and empower.

History
NETS was first sponsored by Assemblyman John Dearie in 1982, when it was known as the Neighborhood Emergency Telephone Service. During this time, Patricia Noonan served as NETS' first Executive Director. Its primary function was as a place for people to call in case of emergencies, as well as serving as the central component of a neighborhood watch system. In addition to its primary functions, NETS also ran programs such as blood pressure screenings, a GED program, and a program where students from the community took home-bound seniors shopping.

NETS has been sponsored by New York State Assemblyman Peter M. Rivera since 1992. It was run by Assemblyman Luis Diaz until December of 2002. During this time, a highlight of NETS was Family Pride Day, a day of celebration of family values that is still held yearly at the Metropolitan Oval in Parkchester. Additional programs and events for seniors included bingo, cultural trips, fashion shows, as well as after-school programs for children. Although computer classes have been offered for years, due to demand, NETS has increased teaching staff and offered more classes in the new Computer Center in 2005.Our current Executive director, Mr David Griffiths, has been a part of NETS since November 2003.
